| | | | Riding the Firenze with Troop 880 | I am helping with a merit badge for Scout Troop 880 (The best troop in South Windsor, CT). Yesterday was windy and colder than ideal riding temperature. In this photo we are getting ready to set off for a 15 mile ride.
You can see my Firenze racing bike behind the minivan - 2nd from the right. It is a fine example of a 15 speed bike from the prior century, and is still going strong. Here in the USA, I understand that Firenze cycles were never sold commercially - they were given away as promotional items, for example "Buy a TV, get a bike". I recently purchased this Firenze from a fellow and have ridden about fifty miles on it.
It is truly a trip down memory lane because I rode a similar style racing bike (Manufactured by Peugeot) to Vereeniging High School in 1981. This is a different time and place - who would have thought I would ever be riding an antique racing bicycle in Connecticut, USA?
