You have to ask yourself "Why?" when you find that some things just don't make sense. Do you also ponder on questions like these?
1. I recently acquired a top of the line, used exercise bicycle for an unbelievably low price. It is in great condition and hardly used. After a day, I noticed the unmistakable odor of cigarette smoke in the house. The previous owner was obviously a heavy smoker. Why would you smoke cigarettes, then purchase an exercise bicycle? Are you worried about your lungs, health of your family, or you beer gut? It just makes no sense to continue smoking while working out. I guess the smoking habit won over the potential exercise habit, which lead to a good price on a exercise bike. I will be the proud owner if I can just get the smell of cigarette smoke out of the metal and plastic.
2. As a home brewer one of my objectives is to craft consistently superb, top quality beer. At no point in my contemplations about the hobby have I ever stopped to ponder "How many calories are there in a home brew?" It is like walking into the Bentley dealership and asking "How does the gas consumption on this V8 compare to my 4 cylinder, economy model hatchback?" If you have to ask the question, than you can't afford the car. Why would you care about the calorie count of one of my hand-crafted brews? If you ask the question, then you don't deserve to enjoy my creation.
3. Home brewers are generally a DIY-Bunch, based on my observations of home brew forums and the online videos. Although sometimes the driving force is to avoid the cost of high-quality brewing equipment, sometimes the driving factor is more personal.
- "Why buy an immersion chiller for $40 when you can make it yourself for $65.97?" - "Why invest hundreds of dollars in brewing equipment to save 83 cents on a bottle of beer?" - "Why spend six precious hours on a weekend, outside in the cold, nurturing a boiling kettle of foamy liquid?"
The answer: "Because I can."
